December 09 Book Review – Liar’s Poker
This is an excellent read – describing the most influential people who shaped Saloman Brothers and Wall Street in the eighties.
The author Michael Lewis (a bond trader) gives an eye-opening, first-hand glance of life in the high-flying world of finance in the 1980s – and a precursor of the kind of greed and behaviour that led to the Global crash in the current climate.
Liar’s Poker itself is a high-stakes game the traders, salesmen, and executives play each afternoon, but it is also a metaphor for the Salomon culture of extreme risk-taking with immediate payoffs and clear winners and losers.
Riveting… It doesn’t disapoint.
P.S. You can trade online with Forex. It’s a risky business but they also give offer a “Practice” account where you can play with imaginary money before attempting the real thing.
